Calculate Your Real Stripe Churn Rate (It's Probably Higher Than You Think)

Most SaaS founders calculate churn wrong. They look at customer count, not revenue. They ignore involuntary churn. They don't separate net from gross. Here's how to get the real number.

Gross churn rate = (Customers lost this month ÷ Customers at start of month) × 100. Revenue churn rate = (MRR lost ÷ MRR at start of month) × 100. Net churn rate = (MRR lost - MRR from expansions) ÷ MRR at start of month × 100. Your net churn is the real number — it accounts for upgrades offsetting cancellations. Stripe calculates this differently depending on where you look. The most accurate way is pulling subscription data via API and calculating manually. Or use SaveMyChurn's free churn audit which connects to your Stripe account and calculates all churn metrics automatically with benchmarks for your industry. Typical SaaS: 3-8% monthly gross churn. Best-in-class: under 2%.
